📍Share with someone who is starting solids! Yogurt is awesome! It’s tangy, creamy and nutrient-rich 🤩 ➡️But there are a few things to consider before offering to baby for the first time: 1. It is made from 🐮 milk, which is one of the top 9 allergenic foods. So it is important to introduce dairy mindfully around 6 months when you start solids. In North America dairy, such as yogurt, cheese and milk (only in small amounts in recipes) can be introduced. It is not recommended to offer milk to drink before 1 year. Our app has a guide and meal plan developed by pediatricians and pediatric dietitians to guide you through allergen introduction😉 2. There is no added sugar, which is not recommended before 2 years of age. The yogurt isle at the supermarket seems to be endless and it can be so hard to know which kind to choose. We recommend plain yogurt with few ingredients, if possible just whole cow’s milk and active cultures. Some people prefer Greek yogurt (like Felipe is eating in the video) because of the thicker consistency that is easier for them to handle and can be a good way to practice spoon skills 🥄 3. ⚠️Beware: if you let your baby self-feed yogurt, it will get messy! But this is all part of the process of discovering new foods and they usually love it! So maybe try offering yogurt right before bath time and make sure you are in the right state of mind. Then just sit back and watch them enjoy 😆 🫐Combine yogurt with different fruits for more flavors, it can also be used as a dip for veggies or spread for crackers and toast. It’s the perfect way to add some protein to a fruit or veggie snack! 👉Do you want to know more about safely starting solids with your little one? 🍼 Double tap if you can relate to this ⬇️ 🙋🏻‍♀️Hey guys! Emma here. Weaning baby off the bottle can be confusing and challenging 😰 ☝🏽 Change is hard. It helps to expect some opposition and expect it to take some time. ☝🏽 You may find it emotional, for both you and baby. It helps to have a plan in place, but know that you may need to be flexible with the plan as you go. 🥛 I started transitioning Waverly off the bottle when she was 11 months old with the thought that it would be easier to wean her sooner rather than later. 🐮 My plan was to swap one bottle of formula for a cup of formula per week, then swap from formula to cow’s milk once she turned one. 🤪 IT WAS A MESSY PROCESS!! 🤪 ✅ In total, it took a little over a month to fully wean her off the bottle and a couple more weeks to fully transition to milk. The last bottle was the hardest emotionally, on both of us, and took longer than our planned week to fully wean. There was A LOT of spitting and a lot of resistance during this period, but with consistent presentation, Waverly eventually accepted and has learned to love milk in a cup. ⭐️We have a “Weaning from a bottle” guide in our app BLW Meals (look for it on the Starting solids guide by age) that will be helpful for you if you’re approaching this stage. 📲 download in the apple app store or google play store today! #blw #weaningfrombottles #babyledweaning #weaning

📍Save for reference about milk for babies! 👶🏽  During baby’s first year of life only breastmilk 🤱 or infant formula 🍼 is recommended. 🐮 Before 1 year Animal milks and plant-based 🌱 milks do not contain all the nutrients needed for their development and may be harder to digest 🚫 🌟 After 1 year: 🤱 Breastfeeding or drinking breastmilk can continue beyond 12 months for as long as mutually desired by mother and baby. 👨🏽‍🍼 For formula-fed babies, the recommendation is to switch from formula to whole cow’s milk or fortified plant-based milk after 12 months. Toddler formulas are not recommended unless medically indicated. 🐮 This is what the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends regarding cow’s milk for babies: ➡️ Children ages 12-24 months are advised to drink whole milk (if the family drinks whole cows milk). At this stage they can drink up to 2-3 cups per day (16-24 oz/day). ➡️ Children ages 2 and older can drink non-fat (skim) or low-fat (1%) milk. At this stage 2-2.5 cups per day (16-20 oz/day). 🌱🥛  If you opt for plant-based milk, check in with your pediatrician for the best option for your little one. Additionally, it is recommended to start to wean from a bottle around 12-15 months, so they are fully weaned by 2 years. You may want to offer milk in a straw cup or open cup instead of a bottle when you start this transition 🥤 ⚠️ Important - It is not necessary to offer milk on a daily basis. There are many other foods (dairy and non-dairy) that can meet your baby’s nutrient needs! If your family doesn’t drink a lot of milk, that’s okay, no need to pressure them. 💡 For more information about this, refer to our BLW Meals App: you can look up “milk” in our free food library for more details about this. We also have a guide on weaning from the bottle and vegan and vegetarian diets, where you can learn everything you need to know about meeting your baby’s nutrient needs! 📌Save for a great way to introduce meat to your baby🍔 🍌When we think of first foods for babies, the first thing that comes in mind is usually fruits and steamed veggies. However meat patties can also be a great food for little ones who are learning to eat and these patties are so tender and juicy that they are an excellent option for babies! 🍔Ingredients: - 1 pound (450g) of extra-lean ground beef (chicken, lean pork or turkey can also be used) - 1/2 onion, finely chopped - Black pepper - to taste - 1 pinch of salt (only for 12 months+) - Optional: 1/4 cup finely chopped vegetables such as zucchini, onion, broccoli, carrots or beets. 🧑🏽‍🍳Directions: 1. Finely chop the onion 2. Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. 3. Take a spoonful of the meat mixture, form into a ball and then flatten into a patty, arrange on a baking sheet or plate. You can freeze them at this point If you’d like. 4. Heat a cast-iron (or non-stick frying pan) greased with olive oil, place a few patties in (do not overcrowd the pan) cover and cook for about 4-5 minutes. 5. Flip the patties, add splash of water, then cover and cook for another 4-5 minutes or until they reach an internal temperature of at least 160°F (71°C). Cooking time may vary. ➡️These can be offered from 6 months on as long as salt is omitted. We love recipes like this one, that the whole family will enjoy! You can make burgers for the family and offer it deconstructed to baby 😉 Our BLW Meals App has over 450 recipes like this one, that are baby-friendly and the whole family can enjoy. Have you introduced shrimp? 🍤 It is recommended to introduce shellfish at the start of the solids journey between 6 and 9 months of age, as it is considered one of the top 9 allergens. Shrimp is one way to introduce shellfish into your baby's diet. 6-9 months is a period known as the critical immune window. Evidence shows that delaying the introduction of allergens (specifically peanut and egg) beyond this stage could actually increase the risk of allergy development instead of preventing it. Read more on how to offer shrimp in our free foods section in the app. Download BLW Meals App in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store 📲 #babyeating #babyeatingsolids #shrimp #blw #babyledweaning

👶🏽 When starting solids your baby's stomach will be doing some adjusting. In the early days of weaning, it can be common for babies to become constipated as their bodies adjust to having solids. It's important to offer fiber rich foods to keep your baby regular and to prevent this moving forward. Prunes and pears are two fruits that are fiber rich and high in sorbitol which is a natural laxative. Small amounts of these fruits can help keep everything moving how it should for your baby. Download BLW Meals App in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store for more easy recipes 📲 #momlife #babyledweaning #6monthbaby #7monthbaby #startingsolids #constipation #homeremedy #babyremedy #easyrecipe #easybabyfood #blw #blwhacks #blwideas

Current scientific evidence indicates that properly stored and prepared cold milk (or food) is not harmful or dangerous for baby. This includes formula, breastmilk or if your child is over the age of 1 year cow’s milk/plant-based milks etc. However, babies who are used to having their milk warmed up may not like cold milk right away, but you can gradually adjust the temperature so they get used to having it cool. 🍼That said, there is no harm in offering milk warm if you prefer. Here are some tips: -Don’t use the microwave. Microwaving may reduce nutrients in breastmilk/prepared formula and create hot spots which could potentially burn baby’s mouth. -Warm it up by placing in a bowl of warm water, gently swishing it around. Or place the bottle under warm (not hot) running water and swirl it around. -Always test the temperature by placing a few drops on your wrist. We do have plenty of research on the importance of safe times and temperatures for keeping breastmilk and formula. So save this information: - Freshly expressed milk can be kept at room temperature for up to 4 hours and in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. - Thawed breastmilk can stay at room temperature for 1-2 hours and in the refrigerator for 1 day. - Prepared formula should be used within 2 hours of preparation. - If a bottle of formula has not been offered to baby, it can be stored in the refrigerator and used within 24 hours. - Throw out any prepared infant formula that is left in the bottle after feeding your baby. The combination of infant formula and your baby’s saliva can cause bacteria to grow. Do you want more evidence-based information on how to feed your baby? 📲Check out our BLW Meals App, we have tons of resources to help you in your feeding journey and all of our information is based on the newest research and approved by pediatric dietitians, feeding specialists and pediatricians. Sorry, there's no magic tricks here. 🥱 Learning to use utensils is a skill that slowly develops over time. You can introduce utensils when you start solids, however many will probably show more interest around 12 months. More developed utensil usage does not occur until a child is close to 2-3 years, so there's no need to rush the process. We have guides in the BLW Meals App to help you out with this and more that you might be curious about on your feeding journey! #blw #babyledweaning #babieseating #babyeating #utensils #blwmealsapp

🍒Cherries can be offered from 6 months on as long as you remove the pit and cut them in half or quarters. 🥄In the beginning it may be easier to gently mash them and load them onto a spoon for baby to suck on. 🤏Once your baby has developed their pincer grasp they can be pitted, cut into quarters and offered for them to pick up on their own. I’m this video baby Lara is 9 months old 😊 🍒Another great option is to add them to recipes, like: - pancakes - waffles - muffins - oatmeal - smoothies ➡️Are you looking for ideas for what to offer your baby and how to do it safely? If already have a high chair, but the footrest isn’t there, check out these tips👇🏽 🔸️It’s ideal to have a high chair with a footrest because this can ensure your child is sitting at a 90 degree angle with their hips, knees and ankles. This not only helps with development and feeding ability, but may even help assist with choking. This is because a child may be able to push down with their feet on the footrest to assist their body in propelling the food forward or out of their mouth if needed. 🔸️The footrest also gives added stability, this way baby won’t slide forward and can rest their feet (making them more comfortable and should consequently keep them at the table longer). ✳️The chair pictured in the beginning is the stokke Tripp trapp, the three babies at the end are all in the ikea antilop high chair. Ideally the baby’s feet would be hitting the foot rest, as in the videos. 📲 For more tips about feeding and everything you need to know to start solids smoothly, check out our BLW meals app. Download in ths google play store or Apple App Store today 💚 #momhacks #hack #blw #babyledweaning

Has your little one had carrots 🥕 yet? If they haven’t, learn how to offer them safely ⤵️ 🥕 Carrots are great for babies. They’re packed with nutrients and their mildly sweet flavor makes them a favorite 🙌🏻 But do you know how to offer them safely? 🤔 ⚠️ First of all, it’s important to know that raw carrots are considered a choking hazard for babies and young children. ✅ So, cook until tender. Do NOT offer raw pieces of carrot, carrot sticks or baby carrots‼️ 💡Keep the general rules for starting finger foods in mind: Foods should be soft enough to squish between your thumb and pointer finger ➖ so baby can chew even without teeth. Offer foods in pieces about the length and width of 1 adult finger ➖ that way it’s easier for baby to hold onto with their palmar grasp ✊🏼 6️⃣➖8️⃣ months ✅ Peel the carrot, cut off the ends and cut into sticks, then cook until tender 🍟 ✅ Add carrots to a variety of recipes 🌟 We have some easy recipes in the app for patties, bites, muffins, soups and more 🤩 💡 If you prefer not to start with finger foods, you can also mash cooked carrot and offer it with responsive spoon feeding (where baby leans in to take a bite). If possible, around 7-8 months transition to offering carrots in pieces🙂 9️⃣ months + ✅ Once your baby has developed the pincer grasp 👌🏻, peel the carrot, cut into bite-size pieces and cook until tender ✅ Another option is to grate raw carrot🥕   For more ways to cook carrot and other delicious recipes that are baby-friendly, download our BLW Meals App! We have 450+ dietitan-approved recipes with information on how to offer them at different stages of development. 🍄Save for ways to serve mushrooms to baby! 💡Mushrooms are very nutritious, they contain phosphorus and other minerals such as copper, selenium and zinc. ****They’re also a source of carbohydrates, protein, fiber and B vitamins. 🍄Soft mushrooms are best when starting solids, like Cremini (or Button Mushrooms), Shitake, and Portobello. 📚In our BLW Meals App’s free food library, we show you exactly how to clean and prepare mushrooms for different stages of development. Here are some things to be mindful of: 🔪Mushrooms must be finely chopped or sliced thinly, so they are no longer round (to avoid choking) 🥘It’s best to cook mushrooms before offering to babies 🍳Since mushrooms can be hard for babies to hold on to in the beginning, a good option can be to add them to recipes, like omelets and pasta 😋Don’t be afraid to offer your baby a variety of flavors and textures, this is great for expanding their palate and giving them plenty of nutrients. ➡️If you ever run out of meal ideas, take a look at our app, we have meal plans for each stage (regular and vegetarian) and 450+ recipes to help you out! Dr. Dina DiMaggio, pediatrician here! @pediatriciansguide Here are my top tips for dealing with a sick baby who isn’t eating their normal amount. Tip 1: Don’t stress! This can be hard! But most of the time, children’s appetites will return to normal once they are feeling well. Tip 2: Prioritize fluids. It’s ok if they are not eating their solids but they definitely need to be drinking to avoid dehydration. Signs of dehydration: - no urine output for 8 hours - their mouth looks dry - no tears when they cry It can be helpful to offer liquids that they like! Things like foods that have high water content (like watermelon), popsicles, ice pops made out of breastmilk/formula, Pedialyte, or smoothies. You may find you have to offer small sips throughout the day and slowly increase as they drink more and more. Tip 3: Give Ibuprofen or Tylenol to manage fever If your child is younger than 3 months, speak with your pediatrician prior to giving them any medication and talk to your child’s doctor for questions regarding dosage. Tip 4: If your child is struggling with symptoms causing pain like sores from Hand, Foot, Mouth or Strep Throat, pain reducers can help them eat better Tip 5: Decrease Congestion Baby’s tend to eat less if they are congested. Things to help with this: cool mist humidifier, saline drops, steam showers or nose suckers *it is recommended to avoid using the nose sucker frequently because babies tend to not like them and they can cause swelling in the nose or bleeding, making it harder to breath As always, we recommend speaking to your child’s pediatrician if you have any concerns about their symptoms or food/water intake. Check the app for lots of soup, popsicle, and smoothie recipes to help your little on get through this sick season! #sickbaby #blw #blwmealsapp

😋 Here is one way to serve corn to baby that is a guaranteed success! 🌽 You can offer corn starting at six months. Just cook until the corn is soft. We recommend leaving it on the cob! 🌽 It's important to remember whole corn kernels can be a choking hazard (think about canned corn that has whole kernels) 🌽 However, if you are serving it on the cob baby really just eats the top of the kernel! When it is cooked soft it is very easy for them to eat. 🌽 If you are feeling nervous about them even eating it on the cob, we have this easy trick for you! If you are wanting more tips on how to offer foods safely to baby we have some exciting changes coming to the Foods section of the app! This section is always free, and can help you safely cut and prepare foods from each food group all reviewed and made by our pediatric feeding team! Who loves mango?🙌 Mango is one of our favorite fruits! It is such a gorgeous color, and is packed with fiber and Vitamin C. Here’s how you can offer them to baby!⬇️ 🥭 6 – 8 months: Cut a slice of mango against the pit, cut this part again into long slices, leave a portion of the skin on so that it’s not so slippery. You can also keep all the skin on the slice and make a checkered cut onto the peel (being careful not to break it), then you turn it inside out. If it’s a big mango you can cut this slice in half to make it easier to hold on to. 🥭 9 months +: Then after they develop the pincer grasp, you can just take off the peel and offer the mango cut in smaller pieces. 🥭 The fibers on mango can lead to choking, so if the mango is fibrous, offer it in the shape shown in the video, that way the mango is cut into smaller pieces and so are the fibers. Some little ones have an oral reaction to the skin of mango, if it persists and is uncomfortable you can hold off on offering again and connect with your pediatrician. If you are wanting more photos and videos on how to offer foods to baby while you are cooking, check out our free Foods section in the app. ✨Download the BLW Meals App in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store today.✨ #blwmealsapp #blwmeals #babyledweaning #mango

Raspberries are so tasty and tart and can be offered at 6 months! We love offering big flavors to babies as it can help expand their palate and get them used to lots of different flavors. ⚠️However small round foods like raspberries can pose a choking hazard, so it’s important to offer them in a way that is safe for baby to eat, as shown in the video above. If you ever wonder about how to serve something safely, just hop on our BLW Meals App, there we have a free food library that shows you exactly how to offer foods at different stages. Download it through the link in our bio and take a look at all of the resources 📲 👉When choosing raspberries for baby, look for soft ripe ones. These can easily be squished so they are no longer round and safer for baby. Even without the pincer grasp, babies usually can pick them up to self-feed, like Luca in the video above. 🥄Another option is to mash them and place them onto a spoon for baby to suck on. 🤏Once your baby has developed their pincer grasp they can be cut in half or quarters. 🥞 Another great option is to add them to recipes, like: - pancakes - waffles - muffins - oatmeal - smoothies - purees ➡️Are you looking for ideas for what to offer your baby and how to do it safely? Check out our BLW Meals App, we have a free food library that shows you exactly how to prepare and offer a variety of foods at different stages. 🥖Bread is a basic food item in so many homes and we get lots of questions on how to offer it to babies, so here are some tips: 📝HOW TO CHOOSE Bread should ideally contain: - less than 5 grams of sugar per slice - no honey - little sodium (ideally less than 50-100 mg sodium/slice, if possible) - No large seeds or nuts - Whole grains/oat flour 💡Sourdough (homemade or bakery) can be a good option as it’s not as processed as bread made with baker’s yeast and generally has fewer sweeteners and preservatives. 🍞 HOW TO OFFER 👀Always keep a close watch when offering bread to your little one as it is considered a choking hazard. Bread can easily get gummy and chewy, sticking to baby’s mouth - they may not know how to deal with this. 🥖Some types of bread (especially very soft ones) may be more likely to form a hazardous “gummy ball” in baby’s mouth, like white sliced bread (such as “wonder bread”) So it may be best to wait until ~ 9 months when your baby has more developed chewing skills. However, bread can be offered around 6 months, here are some options: - Lightly toast bread slices and cut into 1-inch pieces or finger-length strips - Offer crusty ends of a baguette or loaf (these usually hold up to baby’s sucking and gnawing) 🥯Although bread is very practical, it may not be as nutrient-rich as other grains or roots and can easily fill up their small stomachs. 🥜So when you serve bread, always try to offer something with it for added nutrition, such as nut butters, spreads and dips. ⚠️ Note: Since the main ingredient in most types of bread is wheat flour, which is one of the most common allergens, it’s important to introduce gluten (wheat) mindfully away from the other top allergens. Check out our app for more information on allergen introduction. If you are wanting more info on how to offer foods safely to baby, Our BLW Meals App has a free food section showing you exactly how and when to offer a variety of foods to babies. Some mothers can feel like switching to whole milk (or plant based) is their only option. It actually isn't! 🤎 If you're still nursing your baby, you don't need to stop. If you're still pumping, you also don't need to stop. ⭐️Other options are to offer fortified milk in a cup or calcium-rich foods. Our BLW Meals Babies all get their calcium in different ways! 🍓 Waverly drinks whole cow's milk in her cup. 🍓 Wes drinks water and eats calcium-rich foods like yogurt. 🍓 Scarlett still breastfeeds. Does your baby seem to reject the highchair? Maybe it's time to try their own little dining space like a weaning table. A weaning table is a kind of dining or feeding table for babies where they sit to eat. There are lots of different styles of weaning tables to decide from with some suitable from 8 months and others suitable from 1 year. 🍽️ Weaning tables are often used by parents and families that practice Montessori because they allow the baby a feeling of independence. It's still good to have your child sit at the family tables for dedicated meals so that they benefit from the social aspect of dining together. You can make a choice as to which meals you eat together based on your family schedule and cultural practices. #montessori #blw #babyledweaning #babyeating #startingsolids

🍼Are you confused about how to offer milk to your nursling after 12 months? ☝🏽First, let me say that there is no right or wrong way to end your breastfeeding journey. There is just the way that works for you as a mother. One of the questions that you probably get asked often is “when will you stop breastfeeding?” 🤷🏽‍♀️ For Vanessa, she will let Scarlett decide when to stop or when she decides that shes over it…maybe these things will intersect and maybe they won’t. It’s important to remember that you are also a participant in the breastfeeding journey and your mental and physical health matters just as much as your baby’s. 🍼Now, what I want to share with you is something that I have realized a lot of moms wonder: do I NEED to switch to cow’s milk if I’m still nursing my baby? ✨The short answer is no. Can you? Of course! If you are away from your baby, if you feel like weaning, or your family drinks cows milk, you can absolutely offer it! You have options, and there’s no perfect way to do it, and it depends on your breastfeeding goals and capacity. 💕What’s important to know is that just because your baby is 12 months old, you don’t need to stop nursing if you don’t want to. Cows milk or comparable fortified plant-based milks are just one way to help meet fat, calcium, vitamin D and energy needs during this transition. You can read more about that in the app📲(link in bio). #breastfeeding #breastfeedingjourney #blwmealsapp #babyledweaning #babynursing #nursingmom

Real life over here 😵‍💫 Babies starting solids be like: you just cleaned the floors? Think again! 😵‍💫 No joke, babies starting solids are inevitably messy! But there's nothing like a good bath to fix it afterwards! Try to stay calm it won't always be like this. Although we may get stressed when this happens, it's important to let the little ones explore, experiment and have fun. It's part of learning- we have to let them practice to learn to eat. If you're worried this will create bad table manners, try to remember that they're still babies! Have you been told your baby “needs teeth” to start finger foods? 🦷⁣ We are asked this a lot because some parents have family members saying they should wait until their babies have multiple teeth to start solid foods or finger foods.  ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣Guess what? This could not be further from the truth! Babies can learn to chew and start solids without having teeth. You don’t even have to start with purees 🤗⁣⁣⁣. This little one is 9 months and barely has their bottom two teeth coming in. ⁣🔑They key is to serve foods that are “smushable” and have the proper softness for your baby to gum and chew. ⁣⁣Plus baby teeth are under their gums, which provide the rigidity and strength needed to mash foods. Check out our app’s Food section for advice on how to prepare finger foods safely for your baby (link in bio📲)! ⁣⁣⁣Teeth come in at totally different times for every baby. If we waited for each baby to have multiple teeth, it’s possible we would miss other development milestones that help baby learn to eat. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣It’s better to wait for all the signs of readiness for starting solids instead 🤗 We have a free guide in the BLW Meals App that helps you navigate all the questions you may have when you start solids, including an easy to follow guide to Readiness! 👇🏼Tag someone who’s ready to start introducing solids⬇️ 🥄🖐🏻In order to start introducing solid foods, be it puréed or finger foods, all babies need to show the following signs of readiness: ✔️ BE ~6 MONTHS OLD TO START, WHO organization recommends exclusive breast milk or formula until 6 months, before this their and digestive systems may still be immature for solids. ✔️ BRINGS OBJECTS TO THE MOUTH: if baby still doesn’t bring toys to their mouth, they probably won’t put food in either. ✔️BE ABLE TO SIT ON THEIR OWN WITH LITTLE OR NO SUPPORT + HAVE GOOD HEAD AND NECK CONTROL ➡️ Babies don’t need to sit up by themselves for a long time. But if you sit them down it helps if they have good head control and can sit for a few seconds or with minimal assistance. ➡️ This reduces the risk of choking. If there’s a piece of food in the mouth that needs to be expelled, it’s important to be in an upright position. This way babies can use their gag reflex safely (there’s more about this in the app). ✔️ SHOWS INTEREST IN FOODS: when babies see that the family is eating, they may watch and mimic. ✔️ FADING TONGUE THRUST: Baby opens their mouth and accepts food without strongly pushing it out with their tongue, meaning their tongue thrust is integrating and fading. This reflex does not need to be entirely gone. ❌If baby still doesn’t show all the signs of readiness, wait. Enjoy the last few weeks of exclusive milk feeds (breastmilk or formula). It’s SO much easier… Waiting until baby has the signs of readiness can save you and baby so much stress. Stay away from comparisons, every baby has their own time! If your baby isn’t meeting these signs for whatever reason or was born prematurely, speak with your pediatrician before starting solids. 📲 Do you know how to identify when your baby is ready? We’ll show you how to start solids confidently with our app, BLW Meals App. Download in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store today #startingsolids #babyledweaning #blw #babyeating #babiesoftiktok

Does this happen to you?🥲 This is Scarlett at 7 months old in the Ikea high chair with the Nuby plate. Not going to lie, this method isn’t fool proof! Even in the video she was still able to lift up the corners the first time her mom, Vanessa, put the plate down. We’ve seen a few different combinations of high chairs and plates, but many babies are still able to flip them so here’s what we recommend: 1. Make sure the tray is clean (no crumbs or ridges so there is a tighter seal) 2. Disperse water droplets over the entire back of the silicone plate 3. Press down the plate so the water disperses underneath 4. Try again if it doesn’t work the first time. 5. Ditch the plate if needed! If the plate is becoming too much of a distraction, no need to force it! They don’t need it to learn to eat💚. If you need more tips and guides on how to start solids, what to expect, and how to offer food safely to your little one, download the BLW meals App 📲using the link in our bio #momlife #momhacks #babyhacks #feedinghacks #blwmealsapp #blwmeals #babyledweaning #babyeating

💖In the beginning stages of starting solids, your baby may struggle picking up the food and feeding themselves. Babies at this stage are still developing their dexterity and will practice hand-eye coordination as they bring food to their mouths. 💡They may eat very little or may surprise you and eat a lot. 🌟We like to think of this period as LESS about eating and MORE about exploring, tasting and creating positive interactions with food. The eating comes with time and practice! 🍼Remember, up until the age of one, milk feeds (whether breastmilk or formula) are your baby’s main source of nutrition. 😬Don’t stress out if they don’t seem to actually be eating. They are learning so much just by interacting with the food! 📲If you need more information about starting solids, download BLW meals app! You can find everything you need for this stage. Have you ever made chia pudding? 🥣  😋Chia pudding is a pudding made from chia seeds, milk, fruit and sometimes sweetener (12 months+). It is a super easy and nutrient dense breakfast or snack for babies. 🤎I love making this on weekends for the week ahead and adding in berries or cooked cinnamon apples to switch up the presentation and flavor. I’m always looking for ways to add beneficial nutrients in Wesley’s diet and chia seeds are a great way to add omega-3’s and healthy fiber. 🥄Chia Pudding can be offered on a spoon, respectfully allowing baby to come towards it and take a bite if they still haven't developed spoon skills. 👐🏽Alternatively, it can be placed on baby's tray for them to feel the texture with their hands and bring some to the mouth. ⭐️ The great thing about it is, you can get creative and add in different fruits, purées, or nut butters. Whatever you’re feeling! The BLW Meals App offers a few different Chia Pudding Recipes that you can use for inspiration. #blw #babyledweaning #chiapudding

Logan here 👋🏽 It took me a while to figure out that egg-nog was made using raw eggs. It's in the name, but for some reason it didn't register. Most store bought egg-nog is made using pasteurized eggs, which can be considered safe for consumption. The main issue lies in the sugar content. I picked up an egg-nog carton last week and it had 18g of sugar for one serving. 😵‍💫 I wanted Wesley to be able to experience it in a safe and fun way, so I created this vegan & sugar free Egg-less Nog I'm sharing it with you here! We've got lots of innovative recipes like this in BLW Meals App (click the link in bio to download for free) 📲 #christmasrecipe #christmas #blw #babyledweaning #eggnog #eggless #blwmealsap

Frozen fruit is great for helping little teeth! It doesn't need to be frozen for long, ten minutes is long enough to offer your baby a treat that is hard to gnaw on, whilst acting as a chilled soothing agent. As your baby munches on the fruit, it will become soft - making it easier for them to eat 🍓 Download the BLW Meals App on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store for more helpful tips! #babyhack #momhack #babyteething #blw

Meals dont have to be fancy to meet nutritional needs! When I dont have time to make homemade mac and cheese, I reach for store bought and boost nutrition by adding things like hemp seeds or nutrional yeast. We don't like to add any more stress to your day around food. Some meals you may have more time to prepare a variety, and other times you won't (or you just may be mentally tapped out) & that’s okay! We show you exactly how to offer a variety of foods in our app’s food library link in bio📲. Most foods can be offered to babies from the start as long as they are the appropriate size and texture. However ⬇️ There are a few things that should not be offered to babies: 🚫Honey - don’t offer any food containing honey before 12 months as there is a risk of bacteria contamination that may cause botulism. 🚫Salt - baby’s have lower sodium needs which can be met with breastmilk/formula or what’s naturally occurring in foods. Small amounts are likely not harmful, just be mindful of not specifically adding salt to your baby’s food before the age of 1. 🚫Sugar - it’s recommended by the AAP to hold off on all kinds of refined sugar and sweeteners until close to 2 years old. Try sweetening recipes with fruits instead. Some great options are ripe bananas, applesauce and even dates or date paste (find all of them in our app!). 🚫Choking hazards - hard and round foods are the biggest choking hazards. Foods that are hard like nuts should be ground before offering and round foods like grapes or berries should be cut in half or quarters, depending on their size. ⁉️And what about food allergens? The newest research suggests introducing the top allergenic foods (egg, dairy, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, sesame, fish, shellfish) early on. ☝🏼However it’s important to do this mindfully and offer one allergen at a time. 📲We have a guide in our app showing you exactly how to go about this and a meal plan with suggestions on how to introduce each one! If your baby is in daycare/school and you pack their lunch, then you know what struggles come with this! 🏫 Wesley started Montessori School a couple of months ago. After the first two weeks or so of sending his lunch, I started to panic. I didn't want to pack the same thing over and over. I didn't want to pack foods that were difficult to eat or that he might need lots of help with. Lastly, I wanted to ensure that I was packing nutrient dense foods that he would want to eat! 🍓 The BLW Meals App has quite literally saved me so much stress. I can pull up the app, filter it by time and type of recipe so that Wesley's meals are good to go and planned for the week. ✨ The thing that is most helpful is, the majority of the recipes are freezer safe and can be stored for up to 6 months. This saves me lots of time. I like to pick a day on the weekend that I am not busy and prep and cook everything for the following week. #blwmeals #blwbaby #toddlerlunch #lunchbox #babylunch #daycarelunch #montessori #montessorischool

🦞Have you introduced lobster? Lobster is one way to introduce shellfish to your little one. It is a great source of protein, zinc, iron and magnesium. It is considered one of the top 9 allergens and newest research indicates to introduce it around 6 months of age when starting solids. If your baby has a family history of fish or shellfish allergy, consult your pediatrician before introducing shrimp, lobster and other seafood. How to offer 6 months + (with a palmar grasp): - Lobster should be cooked before offering to baby. - To help avoid choking hazards, cut lobster into thin slices going parallel to the tail since the texture may be stringy and hard for babies to chew. - Another option is to chop it up and add it to recipes, like cakes or patties. 9 months + (with a pincer grasp): - Offer it cooked in thin bite-sized pieces or shredded - You can also continue to offer it in recipes. Take note: when cutting lobster, make sure to never leave large, rounded shapes which could pose a choking hazard. Depending on the size of the lobster cut vertically down the tail to prevent this. If you want more more tips on how to cook and offer foods safely to your little one, we have a free foods library in the app with over 70 foods that are photographed by our Nutritionist specializing in BLW and reviewed by our Pediatric Dietitian and SLP/Feeding therapist. This is a sneak peak of how to offer lobster before it is added to the app, as our review process from our healthcare professionals takes time💚. #blwmealsapp #babyledweaning #blw #lobster #shellfish

"Should we wait 3-5 days for each food?" You can... but it may take a long time to introduce foods and then you may only have 5-7 foods introduced in the first month. Meaning you may miss some of the critical immune window for introducing the top 9 allergens. ⭐️There's actually no evidence that we need to space out every single non-allergenic food and wait three days with each new food that you offer. 🍓A recent study indicated that, based off of clinical experience, pediatric practitioners were recommending that one new food per day is okay unless you are a baby with high risk for food allergies. This study even noted that the current recommendations may need to be re-evaluated since "the current recommendation limits infant food diversity and may delay early peanut introduction." 🥑Even with the top 9 allergens, allergic reactions tend to happen quickly and within a few hours according to the Center for Food Allergy and Asthma Research. The recommendation is to offer the top allergens 3 days in a row to monitor baby's response to them. 📱 In the BLW meals app we have baby's first 30 days of starting solids. You'll notice that we start with one food per day and gradually start combining foods. We did this because we want to keep our expectations low, to let them explore the food, but also to note that you can safely offer a new food each day! #blw #babyledweaning #blwmealsapp

📍Save for a super cute V-day breakfast 💕 If you are feeling overwhelmed by elaborate (time consuming and expensive) Valentine’s meals and activities, we feel you ♥️. That’s why we came up with this breakfast idea that’s pretty simple to do. 🍓Start by adding chopped strawberries into your favorite pancake batter (we have some delicious baby-friendly recipes in our app.) Download in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store today! 🥞Once the pancakes are cooked, cut them with a heart-shaped cutter. ❣️Then just cut the strawberries into hearts ➡️ These can be offered from 6 months on as long as allergens have been introduced and there’s no added sugar 😉 🤩A heart shaped cutter is a great investment! Use it to make heart-shaped 🥪Sandwiches 🥙Quesadillas 🧀 Cheese slices 🍎Apple slices 🍉Watermelon slices 😁basically anything is cuter as a heart! 💚And don’t forget that what matters the most is being with your little one, eating with them and discovering a new world of flavors. They probably won’t remember their first Valentine’s day, but they will remember being loved 🥰 You are doing an amazing job!💌 #blw #babyledweaning #valentinesday #valentinesdayideas #valentinesdayforkids #valentinesdayrecipe #pancakerecipe

It’s easy to be hesistant about eating out with your baby, because your’e worried about how they might behave! I know that when he comes along, me and his dad can’t hang around and chit chat for an hour after eating because by that time Wesley is over it. Pediatric feeding research shows⬇️ ⁣⁣ 🔸There’s no long-term scientific evidence that if you start (key word) with purées you are delaying your baby’s oral development. The current research does however indicate it’s important to work on transitioning to different textures and more finger foods by the 9 month mark. PMID: [19161546] 🔸There’s also no evidence that offering a combination of finger foods with purées delays oral development. 🔸 We recommend having a plan to advance textures or transition to finger foods around 9 months, but give yourself and your little one grace, because transition periods take time. Purees are a texture or consistency that we eat as adults in foods such as smoothies, yogurts, mashed potatoes, and soups. We believe in offering baby the foods your family eats, so feel free to offer the purees! There’s no one perfect way to feed your baby 🤗⁣ It look different for every family💚. ⁣ Whatever method you choose we recommend letting baby lead the way. ⁣ If you do start with spoon feeding or purees here’s what we recommend:⁣ - Hold the spoon eye-level to baby.⁣ - WAIT a few seconds (so much easier said than done). Count to 5 slowly in your head. - Let them either take the spoon from you, or let them lean into the spoon to eat.⁣ - When they stop leaning in or reaching for the spoon and start showing signs of fullness then they are done 🤗.⁣ - No need to “top-off” just watch their hunger/fullness cues to determine when they are full.⁣ ⁣⁣ Here’s baby Palmer at 6 months trying a mango fruit puree💚. In our app, BLW Meals, we teach you how you can use both methods. If you need any help just check out our app 📲 BLW Meals App 💚

🦷 Have you been told your baby "needs teeth" to start finger foods? 🙋‍♀️ We are asked this a lot because some parents have family members saying they should wait until their babies have multiple teeth to start solid foods or finger foods. Guess what? This could not be further from the truth! ✨ Babies can learn to chew and start solids without having teeth. You don't even have to start with purees &2. This little one is 8 months and barely has their bottom two teeth coming in. 🔑 They key is to serve foods that are "smushable" and have the proper softness for your baby to gum and chew. Plus baby teeth are under their gums, which provide the rigidity and strength needed to mash foods. Check out our app's free Food section for advice on how to prepare finger foods safely for your baby. It’s a common misconception that babies need teeth before starting solids. 🦷But how do they break down the food so they don’t choke? Even with no teeth, your baby should be able to tackle solids when given the appropriate size and texture💚  ☝🏼What is important is that your baby is 6 months of age, able to sit unassisted with good head and neck control, is bringing their hands to their mouth and has shown interest in your food when you’re eating. Not teeth… It can be hard to wrap our minds around this but it might ease your mind to remember their teeth are directly under their gums so they are stronger than you think😊 😳Aren’t teeth a necessary part of the digestive process? Well, yes...but at this stage, not really! ☝🏼This is because babies’ first teeth aren’t even associated with chewing. Think about how you chew your food. Do you chew with your front teeth? Nope! When given the proper shape and texture of solids, babies can safely use their gums to mash food before swallowing 💡You may have heard differently from fellow mamas, but this information is supported by the most relevant feeding research and the AAP. This is why serving foods safely for your beginning eater is so important. Check out our free section in the app 📲 for how to serve foods for every stage, whether your little one has teeth or not!

This is why serving foods safely for your beginning eater is so important. Check out our free section in the app 📲 for how to serve foods for every stage, whether your little one has teeth or not!

👶🏽 In the beginning stages of starting solids, your baby may not eat a lot. This is totally normal and to be expected! ⭐️ In fact, we like to think of this period as LESS about eating and MORE about exploring, tasting and creating positive interactions with food. The eating comes with time and practice! 👆🏽Babies at this stage are still developing their dexterity and will practice hand eye coordination as they bring food to their mouths. ⭐️ Don't stress out if they don't seem to actually be eating. They are learning so much just by interacting with the food! We have helpful guides in the app to help you along the way. Raw apples can pose a choking hazard to little ones, that is why baking them is a great way to go, and why not add a splash of vanilla while you are at it? Our BLW Meals App has over 500 recipes which you can filter by what you want to offer, cooking time, allergens and much more! We also offer serving suggestions based on you little one’s stage of development. You can download it through the link in our bio.📲 VANILLA APPLES 🍎Ingredients: - 1 large apple (peeled, cored and no seeds) - 1 tablespoon coconut oil (melted) - ½ teaspoon vanilla extract 👩🏻‍🍳Directions: 1. Peel and core the apple, cut it into quarters or eighths (for 6 months) or into smaller bite size pieces once your baby develops their pincer grasp. For detailed information check Apples in the app’s food library. 2. Heat a skillet over low heat and add the coconut oil. 3. Once melted, add the apple pieces and vanilla. Sauté until very soft (5-10 min.), stirring occasionally. 4. Let cool slightly before serving. 👩‍👧Makes 1-2 servings. ❄️Can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, however the apples may start to brown. 👶🏽 These can be offered from 6 months + as long as the apple is cut appropriately and cooked until it can be easily squished between your fingers. How to offer: ✋🏽With palmar grasp (around 6-8 months), offer apple quarters or eighths which baby can more easily hold on to. 👌🏽With pincer grasp (around 9 months +), offer apple in quarters, eighths or cut into bite-size pieces. This recipe was share with us by registered dietitian Nicole Lattanzio from @infant.nutritionist and approved by stunning Scarlett 🤩 © If you share this post, please tag @blwmealsapp #blwmealsapp #blwmeals #startingsolids #babyfood #babyfoodideas #feedingbaby #snacks #blw #blwmealideas #babyfoodrecipes #babymeals

⭐️BLW is not one size fits all! 🤎No matter how you choose to go about your baby's meals and snacks, as long as you follow your baby's cues and let them LEAD, it's still considered BLW! 🍳BLW is rooted in responsive feeding techniques. Responsive feeding is responding to baby's hunger and fullness cues at meals, and letting them lead the way with eating. ✨There are lots of reasons you might responsibly feed your baby vs letting them self feed. Some may be: - You are out to eat with no highchair available and no suitable finger foods. † Your baby is not feeling well and just not in the mood to eat on their own. ‼️Responsively feeding your baby with a spoon/fork occasionally will not ruin any progress that has been made and won't hinder you moving forward. However, it is very important to never force your baby to eat or pressure them into eating more than they want. 💚We understand that starting and navigating solids looks different for everyone, which is why in the free foods section in our app, you will see a variety of ways you can offer your baby different foods in finger food form, or with a spoon. #internalmonologue #yesitis #blw #babyledweaning #didyouknow #momhack #babyhack #babyfood

🙄 Where it seems like everything you serve is awful? ⭐️ Don't worry you're not alone! Babies learn so much through all of their senses! When they are exploring new foods they are getting a variety of textures (smooth, bumpy, grainy etc), plus they get a variety of smells, and flavors! 💚 The taste receptors on a babies tongue may register something as tarte, sweet, salty, etc. But their reaction to recieving these sensations may seem strange to us! Know that it's developmentally common and normal for this to happen! • It takes a lot of patience, but it can take over 10-15 + times for them to get used to a food. • In the meantime, do not stop offering, but make sure you are not pressuring them with "try it" "eat it" or "take a bite" phrases. Just offer it without pressure or expectations and let them explore it in small portions, even if they don't finish it all. We have guides for every age in our app! Link in bio 📲

💭Do you wonder about when your baby should move to the table? The answer? There isn’t a specific time you need to do this! In fact, you could start BLW at the table, without a tray, from the very beginning! 💕Scarlett and Waverly both moved to the dining table during the latter part of 2022 when they were about 20 months old. The benefits of moving your little one closer to the table is there will be more opportunities to eat together as a family and they can watch you model appropriate mealtime behavior. 🌟The timeline for moving your baby to the table (as opposed to simply using their highchair and tray) is different for each family. Some of the things to consider are: ▪️Your dining set up: if you have limited space or don’t use a conventional dining table, you may opt to keep your baby in their highchair longer ▪️Your family’s dining habits: if you eat meals together, it may be more appealing to your baby at this stage to move to the table so they can feel even more like part of the conversation. ▪️Your baby’s behavior: if you notice your little one getting fussy or frustrated about not being at the table, that’s a green light to make the switch. 💡Most highchairs are designed so that they convert to a booster or “higher chair” with a few modifications. Vanessa removed the tray from Scarlett’s Ikea chair and it became a “higher chair” which pushes right up to the table. ☝🏼If your highchair doesn’t convert, consider a booster seat for your child. If you’re still deciding which highchair to buy, check out the guide in BLW Meals App (link in bio)📲

Is this your little one? 🙋‍♀️ BLW is all about building positive relationships with food. But the first step is babies building a positive relationship with the environment in which food is presented, their HIGHCHAIR! Blaine is a few days from turning 6 months! He is so close to starting solids and you can follow this journey daily here on stories 💚 For the last week I have been sitting him in his highchair for a few minutes a day to get him familiar with his chair and be involved in family mealtime. The benefits from it are amazing! If your little one is already 5 months and has good trunk and head control, it may be helpful to pull out that highchair just for a coulple of minutes And if your baby is almost 6 months and doesn’t sit with minimal support, don’t forget to keep doing a lot of tummy time. This is the best thing to do to make their core strong as they learn how to sit! If your little one is showing signs of readiness for starting solids and you are wanting more support on where and how to start, download BLW Meals App📲 to have access to our free foods library and starting solids guide! #blw #highchair #babyhack

📍Share this with someone who is getting ready to start solids! 🍌The truth is, there are lots of different foods that can be offered from the very beginning of starting solids! Here are a few things to be mindful of: 🥦Offer foods in safe shapes and textures 🧂No salt 🍯 No sugar or honey 🥜Introduce the top allergens individually ➡️Our app has a meal plan for baby’s first 30 days that takes into consideration the newest research on allergen introduction and is approved by pediatric dietitians and pediatricians. So many people have doubts about which foods to start with so having this guide can be incredibly helpful 🤩 🗓This is what the first 4 days look like: 1 - Avocado 🥑  2 - Egg introduction 🥚 3 - Egg with Avocado 🍳🥑 4 - Egg with Broccoli 🥚🥦 🍳Egg is offered 3 days in a row to adequately introduce this allergen. We also try to introduce foods on their own before mixing them together so that baby can learn individual flavors and textures, versus a “mystery mush” with similar texture and flavor. 📲Download our BLW Meals App for the first 30 days meal plan plus meal plans for every month! #blw #blwmeals #tips #momtips

You don’t have to to go out and buy special foods for Valentine’s Day. 9 times out of 10 you can use things that you already have, on hand. 🍓 Strawberries: These are the perfect Valentine’s Day fruit! Their natural shape is already a heart, but to make it more prominent you can cut a small “v” into the top and cut the strawberry in half! 🫑 Bell Peppers: Although these may not be a typical favorites for kids, this can be an opportunity to present them in a new and fun way. Cut strips of bell pepper (from the stem down to the bottom) and arrange two strips in the shape of a heart 🫶🏽 You can even add a fun dip on the side like hummus! 🍕 Pizza Toast: This is a super easy recipe from our app. All you need is bread, marinara sauce and your choice of toppings! I chose spinach, cheese and pepperoni then used a heart shaped cookie cutter to make it more festive ❤️  You can find our version of the Pizza Toast recipe + more in our aBLW Meals App📲 Use the “ready in” filter to find quick recipes that take only a few minutes. #blw #babyledweaning #valentinesday #momhacks #babyhacks

👝Do you struggle with what to pack your baby/toddler for daycare? 🏫 Wesley started Montessori School a couple of months ago. After the first two weeks or so of sending his lunch, I started to panic. I didn’t want to pack the same thing over and over. I didn’t want to pack foods that were difficult to eat or that he might need lots of help with. Lastly, I wanted to ensure that I was packing nutrient dense foods that he would want to eat! 🍓 The BLW Meals App has quite literally saved me so much stress. I can pull up the app, filter it by time and type of recipe so that Wesley’s meals are good to go and planned for the week. ⭐️ The thing that is most helpful is, the majority of the recipes are freezer safe and can be stored for up to 6 months. This saves me lots of time. I like to pick a day on the weekend that I am not busy and prep and cook everything for the following week. #momlife #blwmealsapp #blw #toddlerlunch #montessorimom

🍽️Eating at a restaurant can be nerve wracking when we don't know how it's going to go with our little ones. Here are 5 tips from Vanessa for when shes eating out with Scarlett! 1. Choose a restaurant environment that you feel comfortable bringing your baby to. I feel more at ease if the dining establishment is casual or offers an area where Scarlett can walk around. 2. Don't put your baby in the highchair right away. Sometimes Scarlett gets sick of sitting in the highchair. 3. Have snacks for your baby while you wait for your order. Check the recipe section on our app - link in bio) and use the filters "on the go/ not messy"! 4. Check out the menu online before you go so you don't spend too much time deliberating. 5. Don't stress about salt content If you're sharing a meal with your baby, remember that the amount of sodium used isn't going to have a huge impact since they likely won't consume enough to matter. #babyledweaning #babysabotage #blw #diningoutwithbaby #eatingout #babyeating #bigenergy #vibes #1yearol

😩Just when you think you’re going to enjoy your food at a restaurant… HERE COMES THE BABY BANDIT! 🥷🏻 Double tap if this happens to you. 🤣 Honestly, when Scarlett wants to take over my food I actually feel a little jump for joy because I’m like 🥳 “YAY she’s EATING!!” 🚫The issue here, though, is that by allowing her to completely take over my plate, I’m setting a precedent that it’s acceptable to move my plate in front of her or take food from others. 🍽 💡Remember that exploring your plate is a developmentally on target for babies. They learn to eat from mimicking us, so of course they will be curious about what we’re eating. 💚Part of modelling and eating with your baby is to help foster these social aspects of dining. You can read more about it in our guides. Download the BLW Meals App in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store 📲 #blw #babyledweaning #momstruggles #toddlermom #blwmealplan

🍽️ Does the mess bug you? Don't worry, it gets to us too! 🍝 We do what we can, and try to save extra messy foods for times when we have the capacity for it. ⭐️ We even have filters in the recipe section in the app titled "Not so messy" to help save your sanity! Check out the app through the link in our bio 📲 ☝🏽First of all: try to have a lot of patience and LOW expectations, everyone's reality with starting solids is a little different, and that's OK! Remember your baby is learning and this can take time. This is just a phase that'll soon pass, and before you know it, your little one will be all grown up, so enjoy every moment! ✌🏽Just know it's developmentally appropriate and even helpful for them to get this messy! The sensory feedback and experiences help many little ones tolerate a wide variety of textures and foods. Babies and kids typically need to be able to touch and explore a food on their own before wanting to try it. Next time you think twice about feeding your baby something messy, remember these pointers! #blw #babyledweaning #itookanap #babyeating #sphagetti #cutebaby

The struggle is real! 🫠 It can be so raw to put yourself out on the internet for all to see. Our team knows! Sometimes, we field some comments that can be downright negative about the stuff we share! First off, we want to breate an inclusive community that speaks to everyone in every stage of feeding their baby. Some of the stuff we see said is probably chatter you hear in your own circles, too. Do you get comments like these? Most comments come from a lack of understanding. The BLW Meals App has guides by age that tell you everything that you need to know about BLW so that you can help educate family and friends 💚 download via the link in our bio! #blw #momstruggles #momtiktok #babyledweaning #babyled #blwmealsapp #boundaries

We love time savers! 🥰 Our little ones are the boss of us all day long, it's important to find ways to claim time back for ourselves. Meal prepping some main items for breakfast allows you more time to either lay in bed, do your morning routine or just take some quiet time before you start parenting for the day. All you have to do is heat one or two of the items up and add some fresh fruit or yogurt on the side for a balanced breakfast. The great thing is that I can also use these as a snack! #WinWin You can find these 4 easy recipes + more within our app! 📲 - Blueberry Breakfast Cake - Flax Pancakes - Air Fryer Breakfast Potatoes - Lentil Patties

We've gotten a lot of questions about sweets and treats. Our app (link in bio) has information from our pediatric feeding team about how not to overly restrict sweets since some exposure to sweets can help your child develop a healthier relationship with food in the long run. Check out the brownie recipe thats only sweetened using dates. #blw #babyledweaning #babybrownie #brownie

Have you ever served soup to your baby? The broth can be tricky, so you can use a slotted spoon to drain some of the liquid out, and just keep most of the bigger pieces of food such as chicken to make it easier for your baby to eat! Search “soup” in our recipe section for more soups to try out for the whole family! 📲

⏰ Does it feel like your baby takes a decade to eat? 🤔 Sometimes we get messages asking "how long is too long?" or "when should I end the meal if my baby is taking long?". It's important to understand your baby's cues, so you know when they are still hungry or if they are just playing around. ⭐️ YOUR baby will have their own individual cues. Some babies are still hungry and just slower at finishing their meal Others show a variety of signs they are done eating. ⭐️ Some examples of being done may be: - Starting to cry - Pushing the food away - Dropping the food on the floor (on purpose after eating) - Turning their head away, getting distracted - Playing with the food (after they have eaten) ✌🏽 These are just a few examples! If your baby is doing any of these, offer small pieces of food and when they show signs of being full, then you can stop. If you need info on how to start solids so you feel confident feeding your little one, download the BLW Meals App from the link in our bio 📲 #babyeating #blw #babyledweaning #funnybaby #sensualseduction #patience

Can you relate? 😂 😵‍💫 This can be SO triggering and sometimes it hurts our feelings when we take all this time to make a meal for baby and then...the food is a toy. 🌟 As badly as it can hurt, it's important to remember the division of responsibility (Bread more about this in our app) *it's our responsibility to offer foods, it's their responsibility to decide if or how much they will eat. Does your baby love pasta? 😋 That’s ok! Babies love it and it’s a great source of energy for them. 🤔 When choosing pasta for your baby, opt for pasta types that are bigger and easier for babies to pick up and hold on to, such as Penne, Fusilli, Farfalle, Ziti, Rotini or Rigatoni. Rigatoni is safe to offer because it has ridges easily split apart vertically in baby's mouth when cooked soft, and the tubular shape is larger than their airway. Meaning it is less of a choking risk as larger is easier to gag and propel forward to protect the airway at this stage. Check out more on how to offer in our free foods section in our app. Search “pasta” 📲

🙏🏽 Wondering how to make life a little easier? 💚 Feed your baby what you're eating! Meals for BLW don't need to be complicated or intricate. ➡️ They can simply be modifications of food your family is already eating. - In our recipes in the app we make sure to teach how you can offer that same food to your baby, based on their eating development so you don't have to second-guess! - We recommend adding salt to your food after preparation if possible, limiting or eliminating refined sugar and honey, and making sure it's an appropriate texture. Then you can serve it to your little one! 5 tips from our feeding team: ⬇️ 1. Shred meats so they can be easily gummed by your baby. 2. Add salt to the family meal after taking out the portion for your baby. i 0 3. Steam, boil or bake baby's veggies a little longer so they are mashable. ps 4. Watch out for refined sugars and do not serve honey. 5. Start with small portions and then offer more if they finish. Follow their cues on whether they are hungry or full. #babyeating #babyeat #blw #babyledweaning #adultplate #childplate #food

💚 We like to think of this period as LESS about eating and MORE about exploring, tasting and creating positive interactions with food. The eating comes with time and practice! 🍼 Remember, up until the age of one, milk feeds (whether breastmilk or formula) are your baby's main source of nutrition 👁️ Babies at this stage are still developing their dexterity and will practice hand eye coordination as they bring food to their mouths. ⭐️ Don't stress out if they don't seem to actually be eating. 🍓 You can find some great pancake recipes in our app! Learning to eat takes time ⏰ 🏅 We're so excited for our babies to get to the next stage that we sometimes forget they are just beginners. 🥄 In fact, when it comes to utensils, the spoon may be mastered after the fork because babies can't "stab" the food. It also is a skill that is refined closer to 2-3 years, so no need to pressure them! 😡 Because babies are still learning you may see them becoming frustrated or impatient because they aren't able to eat as quickly as they'd like. 🤚🏽 Something that you can do is gently guide their hand and teach them to "scoop" and bring it straight to their mouth for them to lean and take a bite. 🥄 Foods that require a spoon have the potential to be messy. This is where patience on your end as the parent comes in. It's important to let baby sort it out themselves with direction and offering help as needed. #blwmeals #blwmealsapp #startingsolids #utensils #babyutensils #babyledweaning #thisisintermediateimabeginner

Pouches can 100% be used when baby starts solids and with baby-led weaning. If you offer them, we recommend your baby also gets exposure to finger foods to help with chewing development. For the family that travels or the working parent on the go, these can be a lifesaver for some meals. Get more tips for starting solids by downloading our app in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store 📲 #startingsolids #blw #babyledweaning
